Many of us are seasoned campaigners. I for one have been working in campaigns as long as the OP has.
The advice the OP was giving was get involved in local politics. Go to the caucus. That is exactly what Bernie is very good at - finding voters who have dropped out and bringing them back into the system. Voters who are sick and tired of business as usual.
In Iowa he has ground support and seems to know what he is doing. Iowa also has good media coverage from papers such as the Des Moines Tribune that usually does not play favorites. The people of Iowa expect the paper to tell them what is actually going on.
