I think the idea was Red baiting version 2015. They want to link Sanders to Hugo Chavez, whom the the oil industry sees as an enemy of Capitalism. It doesn't matter if the help in oil kept some people from suffering in the cold. The help from Chavez story is going to shrugged off as a propaganda ploy.

There's a lot of money at stake for the political top...which is to say everyone whose in the 1% or a smaller fraction of concentrated wealth. You can bet everyone pushing for increasing revenue by raising taxes on the ridiculously wealthy is going to be in the sights of the slime machine.

Wouldn't surprise me if that's why one campaign announced "being guilty of centrism" so as to protect from being included in the coming hosing.
