What happened at Abu Gharib was undoubtedly an embarrassment for the Bush (mis-) administration but, in the end, getting a rid of "a few bad apples", screaming "terra" every five seconds for the remainder of that year, and reducing what happened there to essentially Skull-and-Bones-esque "hazing" was apparently enough to put it out of the minds of the public.
