(19,240 posts)Gotta wonder why you seem to think that the Democrats demand party loyalty. Guessing you are new to politics. Or maybe just new to Democratic politics. I am a life long (as in 50 plus year, union, civil rights, women's rights, gay rights and every other kind of rights) Democrat, and I have never ever seen the party's so called leadership pull any of the strings which the GOP pulls in their party. The Democratic Party expands. It includes. It opens up. It is highly personality driven and highly driven by the base. This kind of top down leadership that you think you see is a characteristic of Republicans.
Plus, fascism will never gain a foot hold in the US as long as 25% of the public can be counted upon to take a loud, contrary view to anything just because they can. And no one even has to pay them to do it. Imagine that!
