Romney seems to be hiding out in "Mittness protection" till the convention. I think he wants to avoid anything the might make him look worse than he already does before he get the "official" nomination. I think he had to pick Ryan in order to make sure he was not "removed" at the convention. The Koch brothers wanted Ryan, Romney want the Koch's money, and picking Ryan worked for both of them, and it helped keep the tea party knuckle draggers happy and pretty much sealed the deal that he would be the "official" nominee.

Of course the real problems for him will come "after" the convention when he "is" the official nominee. I think we have only seen the tip of the iceberg from the Obama camp, and after Labor day the gloves will come off and thing will get a lot tougher for Romney and Ryan.
