(1,587 posts)I'm in NC too. At first I was an "independent", beginning in 1983, until that became a recognized party here. Now I am "unaffiliated", and have no intentions to change. Why should I? I get to pick which party I want to vote for, which keeps me off those stupid bulk mailing lists. I can still vote straight D if I want (I don't vote for Rs).
Please don't let the mess some people here cause turn you off democratic principles, at least. Many of them are paid to disrupt. I know the Democratic party has shifted right, but we can bring it back. If they start doing the right thing, because they want our votes, then they'll get them. They'll have to earn them, and hold to their promises, though. Not taking any of that sit down and eat my peas shit anymore. Yeah. I want my fucking pony. Sue me.
Otherwise, I think after Bernie, people will start looking outside the two-party system we've gotten stuck with. Younger generations like yours won't be willing to keep voting for "more of the same" shit we've been fed. Slow slide or quick fall, it's still going to come down on us, if we the people don't do something about it.
