Here are the %-ages of voters in the 2008 election (last contested election) by age group from the US Census:

18 to 24 years 10%
25 to 34 years 15%
35 to 44 years 17%
45 to 54 years 21%
55 to 64 years 18%
65 to 74 years 11%
75 years and over 9%

37% (more than 1/3) were over 55 years old, and 58% were over 45 years old.
