I think that's one reason people abroad take such interest in our politics. The effects can be dramatically different. Obama's presidency has been greeted very well overall worldwide. When W. was reelected, few overseas could even believe it. There was that famous headline in a London newspaper 'How Can So Many Americans Be So Stupid?' or words to that effect.
