In reply to the discussion: Americans Get Testy With Media After It Disrupts a Presser on Poverty to Ask About ISIS. [View all]Orrex
(66,588 posts)49. No, that's not how it works
If the media doesn't like the way that Sanders runs his press conferences, then they'll either ignore him or they'll cover him with increasingly pointed bias.
Who do you think Sanders thinks he is? Do you think that he believes the media will fall in line behind him simply because he's running a firm second place in a three person contest?
They need to talk about all the issues and not just Trump and ISIS.
You may want that, and I may want that, and Sanders may want that, but what you and I and Sanders want is irrelevant.
Poverty in minority communities is a big issue for many Americans.
No kidding. And when the press wants to make that topic front-and-center, then they'll certainly cover it with vigor. In the meantime, what you and I and Sanders want is irrelevant.
The media has to cover it. Whether they like it or not.
In 2015 you can't seriously believe that. The media doesn't have to cover anything that won't generate clicks, and right now poverty won't do it, because America hates its poor. What you and I and Sanders want it irrelevant.
You can dig in your heels and demand that the media obey Sanders' wishes, and I'm sure that he'll get a receptive audience of two or three journalists while the other five dozen head back to their offices to write articles about how Sanders is cranky and evasive.
The media is not what you want it to be. Yes, it needs reform, but Sanders isn't going to reform it at the same time he's trying to run his campaign.

I don't think they REALLY want to talk about Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Libya, and Syria

Yep. Hilary and the Media can yammer on about ISIS, but the public wants to talk about the ECONOMY.
