in rhetoric that ranges from 'nothing is more important than these issues they face' to 'why talk about those problems when there is terrorism in the world'. It's a matter of making use of issues for one's own purpose rather than advocating issues with the goal of making progress on those issues.

I've been doing a great deal of reading about Baltimore, prompted by current events and the involvement of artists I know. Lots of major problems there, from lead paint poisoning to condemned buildings to lack of access to groceries, a lack of jobs. These things have to be addressed, they can not be put eternally aside while we focus on 'terror'. To do so would be morally reprehensible. Those who are calling for that are simply wrong, even from a national security point of view.
