I think it is important for us not to let the private debate commission dictate who we are allowed to hear and who we are not. However, if I was to buy into the spoiler idea, then Gary Johnson, Libertarian, presidential candidate, is twice as likely to be a spoiler for Romney than Jill Stein to be a spoiler for Obama.

As you know the Republicans were not all that thrilled about Romney and a September 7-9, 2012 CNN poll of likely voters gives twice as many voters interested in Johnson than Stein.

.... So I guess, if you are for President Obama and you give weight to the spoiler argument, you should consider working to get Gary Johnson, Libertarian into the debates to take votes away for Romney - votes that would be very unlikely to go to Obama.

If, Gary Johnson is in the debate, it might change how Governor Romney answers some questions, otherwise, both candidates, now that they have their party's nomination, will run to the middle, sometimes abandoning why some of us liked them in the first place.

Other candidates are important to the debates, not because they might win, but because they hold the leaders accountable to earlier positions they have taken.
