This statement doesn't say anything to or about the victims of the violence, which, in fact had not yet occurred. It was directed at those who were understandably upset about a deliberate insult to their religion and was aimed at preventing violence. And it certainly did not imply that the victims were "asking for it." It didn't even say that the film-makers were asking for it.

Nice try, but this doesn't fly.
