Obviously when a shit potato like this one pops up, you would at least want to see how it's handled before jumping in.

He did the same thing with the Chinese dissident.

Everyone knows the challenger is not the president, and it increases his cred to say, "We will not comment on a developing and sensitive international matter," wait till it reaches an interim break point, and then, even if it is handled well, find some thing or other to criticize.

I'm thinking he wants to look "decisive" and "action oriented", but he's coming off as unhinged.

Of course, the underlying cause could be that he's unhinged. But, for a guy with no convictions, no core beliefs, and no humanity, he even has to feign outrage when his principles du jour are being offended.
