17. Actually, Bernie's position on CU, appropriately, is much narrower than that

Bernie has proposed a constitutional amendment to reverse CU. Unlike many of the ill-advised proposals that have been put forward on this subject, it doesn't reverse the notion of "corporate personhood" in general. Rather, it merely states as an affirmative matter that both the right to vote and right to contribute to and expend money on behalf of campaigns rests with natural persons only.

Even that proposal is somewhat problematic insofar as it could be read to allow Congress to bar contributions from unions, organizations such as MoveOn, even party organizations.

The reality is that while I very much think CU was wrongly decided, its doubtful at this time that even if the SCOTUS reversed itself and/or Bernie's amendment somehow was ratified, Congress would pass new laws that would reinstate the limitations that CU struck down.
