(4,035 posts)Who cannot fathom that if women are held back by the fear of rape, which is rape culture, men benefit by it, even those who do not rape. Unfortunately, it is a part in a bigger trend where people cannot see that if their parents, grandparents and earlier generations weren't discriminated against, they have inherited some of the benefit that not-discrimination accrued to them (white privilege.) When it as immediate as male privilege -as in, it benefits them directly - they refuse to see it. They truly believe they pulled themselves up by their own bootstraps. And anyone pointing out how much worse off their class would be if they didn't belong to the white class, or male class of people, is worthy of attacking all day long, in every thread, loudly, and with much derailing of discussion.
