Can't post a link with "https:" [View all]

While writing this post: http://www.democraticunderground.com/12286768
I tried to put in a link to the official white house petition,
which starts "https://wwws." (note the second "s&quot .

The DU software converted the "https:" into "http:",
which gave "Access Denied".

After a few tries I realized "http://www." worked,
removing the "s" from "wwws",
the www site redirects to the original link.

But it seems impossible to post an "https" link,
I tried a few others and DU converted them all to "http".

I even tried using the "link" button, that didn't work either.

Is there a reason "https" links are removed?
There are some sites which require https.

Here's the bad link generated by DU: https://wwws.whitehouse.gov/petitions/!/petition/require-free-access-over-internet-scientific-journal-articles-arising-taxpayer-funded-research/wDX82FLQ

The correct link has "https" instead of "http".
