17. I had hip replacement at age 45

I'm now 68 and it was by far the easiest surgery I've ever had. I was back at work in 10 days. I could have gone sooner if I'd had a desk job. Ive had 2 other hip surgeries and a knee replacement. Even though I was younger for the other two hip surgeries, they were much harder than replacement.

My advice is get moving as soon as you can. And although you will resist it, move as much as you can. You lose muscle mass and movement more quickly at your age. (I had my knee done 3 months ago and am still working on it.)

The pre surgery anxiety is the worst. I've had a lot of it. Listen to a book on tape, if its not too late to get one. Tell yourself to just concentrate on the plot, nothing else.

Good luck, I'll be thinking of you. You'll be fine.

edited to add: when you get to the hospital, surgical center, they will give you something to calm your nerves. It's like magic. All your worries will go away.
