They not only monitor DU but also the Discussionist. They review all the alerts that MIRT deals with and they decide who needs to be banned. Plus there's all the technical stuff that needs to be taken care of.

I do think they try to get to the urgent questions, like the ones about money. The less urgent just get left behind.

It's a shame.
