(18,375 posts)Mr Dean said he would do what he deems best. That 73% of Vermont voters think something else is best demonstrates neither that Mr Dean "knows," nor that Vermont "knows."
More to the point, I think, would be the question of why, if say the majority of the country wanted Mr Sanders, Mr Dean would still think Mrs Clinton was best. However, what is "best" is not really a question subject to majority choice, unless you consider "best" to equate to "most desired."
Ya know, we fought this battle a long time ago, on the other side. Something about "virtual representation" and "taxation without representation."
However, there is another point. The Democratic Party is not the United States. It is a party. A faction, to put a finer point on it. Super Delegates do not exist to serve the nation, they exist to serve the Party. We may be facing a situation this year, where the two do not coincide, and where "the good of the Party" does not correlate to "The good of the country" (Mr Dean's explanation notwithstanding)
