I understand, in his heart, Mayor Riley is a good and honest man. The fact that the NAACP organized a national boycott in 1998-99 to protest the flying of the Confederate Battle Flag over the State House in Columbia, and said boycott was impacting the heavily tourist-based economy of Charleston may or may not have had any bearing on Riley's decision to join the march to the capital.

I'm afraid I'm becoming very cynical in my old age.
