That relateability. You are so right on Jane's appeal and Bernie's for that matter. No shiny objects for them, just truth and lots of it wrapped in love and hope. I think that is why they are resonating. Our world has become so fake that their very realness is like a breath of fresh air.

This whole thing makes me think of what happened with Carrie Fisher in the Force Awakens. Now I am a Star Wars fan, loved the original series, loved me some Princess Leia, saw them all in the theaters the first time around. She came back and was just ripped to shreds because she had the temerity to grow old. How dare she not be 21 and able to sashay around in her gold bikini. Never mind that she has become a respected author, comedian, mental illness survivor and all around interesting person. It was just... EWW shes old and fat. God I want that to stop.

Jane for me represents all the wonderful women in my life. She ist that teacher I had in the 2nd grade who I loved so much I never forgot her even 40 years later. She is that unexpected friend that was quietly there for me when I needed someone to just listen. She is my Aunt who helped raise me when my mother had to work two jobs to make enough money to keep my brother and I fed. She is the quiet strength of women in all our everyday guises. She will never SPARKLE in the way that Jackie or Michelle does, but she doesn't need to. What she is is enough.
