The major flaw I see is that if you overthink the tactical vote thing, you usually end up getting bitten in the ass. Unforeseen consequences and all that.
IMO, the better alternative is for everyone to vote their conscience in Nov. After that seek to expand the progressive movement, either as Democrats or as a third party. Build coalitions with other third parties, like the Greens. Get some candidates for House seats in 2018. Then challenge the incumbant POTUS in 2020, whoever it is. I suspect the country will be begging for change then.
