17. The Big Picture, Conversations with Great Minds: Part 1. Nina Turner,
Sat May 28, 2016, 04:41 PM
May 2016

in the two-part Segment, "The Rise of Bernie and the Fall of the GOP", May 27.

Intro. on the Bernie v. Trump Debate drop. For tonight's Conversations with Great Minds - I'm joined by one of the progressive movement's highest profile rising stars. Nina Turner is a former Cleveland City Councilperson, an Ohio State Senator representing that state's 25th district, and served as the minority whip in the Ohio senate.
Right now, she travels the country as a spokesperson for the Bernie Sanders campaign for president. Even if he doesn't win the nomination - Bernie Sanders has still revolutionized American politics and inspired millions of young people to join the progressive movement. So why are so many people high-up in the Democratic Party so against what he wants to do?

Thom and Nina discuss her background and entry into politics, why she joined Sen. Sanders' campaign and what a political revolution means to her. Other issues: the need for election reform and fair voting; minimum wage increase and universal healthcare as a moral right; invest in young people, college education brings change and can help lift people out of poverty; Bernie's fight for racial and social justice; in the African American community there's barely a middle class anymore; Bernie and FDR, more.

MORE with Nina Turner at the *14:44 Min. mark. FULL SHOW, May 27, The Rise of Bernie and the Fall of the GOP.

Thom and Nina talk about Bernie's 5 slots at the Democratic Convention Committee, and more.

In the second half of Great Minds Thom discusses the Republican party with professor John Kenneth White, author of the book “What Happened to the Republican Party?: And What It Means for American Presidential Politics.”
