If they're actually angry/enraged, you're not going to get anywhere.
So they answer the phone sounding like a grumpy old guy, you want to sound like a grumpy old guy/gal. Shorten your words - when there's a chance to drag out a word like "say", make it short. Use more curt synonyms for the words in your script.
Sound like your damn kids are making you call people and they won't stop messing with your lawn.
The goal is to trigger an "I'm like you" sort of feeling. Once that's established, gradually sound happier and more excited. The "I'm like you" feeling will make them happier and more excited, to a certain extent.
