In reply to the discussion: Lawrence O'Donnell ignored Bernie's candidacy - Bernie Group [View all]swilton
(5,069 posts)I remember him from the McLaughlin Group although he represented the left - he was always a centrist - to the right of Morton Kondracke and Eleanor Clift.
His academic background as a Harvard trained economist and Staff Director (1993-95) for the Senate Finance Committee suggests to me that his political analysis is from a neo-liberalist lens....and why he would tend to dismiss Sanders....Supporting this theory is that in 1990, he worked as a key legislative aide (1989-95) for Senator Moynihan who, according to Wikepedia, took this controversial position regarding expansion of healthcare coverage for the poor.
"Moynihan broke with orthodox liberal positions of his party on numerous occasions. As chairman of the Senate Finance Committee in the 1990s, he strongly opposed President Bill Clinton's proposal to expand health care coverage to all Americans. Seeking to focus the debate over health insurance on the financing of health care, Moynihan garnered controversy by stating that "there is no health care crisis in this country."
But as a news station that 'should' value objectivity, the news should not be about O'Donnell's personal views...but this is why I value DU, Democracy Now, TRNN, RT, et. al.
