And I think that most staff will be fair with their coworkers. Can't say that's true about the business owners.

This seems to be the "american" model of entrepreneurship - you know the "makers". Screw the ones that do the work.

Other countries (surprise!) don't use tips as a bargaining point. If there is exceptional service, a compliment or a light touch might happen, but isn't expected. (Oh, I should say that the Parisian cafe's have waiters that can smell an american a block away and will expect to get a tip++ since the american doesn't know better.)

In AMERICA: "We only need to pay you $3.75/hour since you'll get filthy rich off that table of 10 barnyard omnivores." The ones that are obnoxious, find faults with everything, and leave with trash and maybe a few pennies.
