I would think that Biden and supporters would not see talking about it as a bad thing. If there is regret over the outcome, why not own it and vow to do something different?
All candidates have made mistakes and taken problematic positions. It's informative to see if they would rather it stay hidden because they know it's unpopular and they still see it as a positive contribution.

"It wasn't bad until a lot of people knew about it" is a strange position for someone who has spent most of their life on a public stage.
