I suppose I'm not so jaded yet. I agree with not attaching hopes to candidates. (Too many people like the idea of a "leader". It's much better for democracy when people believe in the institutions and understand the electorate's power, rather than pin all their hopes on the next president or governor.) But I'm really proud of how much stronger the Democratic candidates are than, say, the Republicans in the 2016 primary. Our party always attracts the best and the brightest, and that can also be seen when one compares Democratic House and Senate members to their Republican counterparts.
