In reply to the discussion: Woman shouts 'you can hug and kiss me any time' to Joe Biden at presidential campaign rally [View all]NurseJackie
(42,862 posts)65. No I didn't see anything like that.
The only "compilation" I've observed comes from my own memory over the course of a dozen years that he's been on my radar. What I saw was not personally horrifying or disturbing to me, I simply saw it as odd. But I can see and understand how the sniffing and nuzzling and caressing and rubbing would be a trigger for many.
The way I read it is pushback against a destructive RW meme.
I understand where you're coming from. I understand he heckler didn't MEAN to be harmful or dismissive... just as Biden didn't MEAN to cause others (or observers) discomfort or feeling invaded.
If Biden can show growth and understanding and acknowledge those who have expressed their feelings, if he can show respect by pledging to be more thoughtful and aware... why then is is so hard for his most ardent supporters to do the same? Why give high-fives and back-slaps and atta-girls when a boisterous supporter shows a lack of good judgement by blurting out something like that?
And I'll even concede that in the excitement and emotive moment (not having time for reflective consideration) it seems only natural that others would join in and cheer on that type of crass and classless outburst. But now we're no longer "in the moment" and we've had time to reflect and consider. But sadly, even in the intervening hours, and even after hearing from the voices of those who were most deeply affected by such things... there's still a defiant and harmful "fuck-you/grow-up" and "in-your-face-crybabies" attitude that I don't fully understand the motivation for.
You and I are now going in circles too. We'll probably NEVER agree, but I think we understand each other's positions. If there's something that you genuinely don't understand, let me know and I'll give it another shot. Aside from that, I think we're done and have take this about as far as we can.
primary today, I would vote for: Joe Biden

OP
Yes.. the call outs are tacky. I think the sentiment may be pretty broadly out there, though.

I'm sorry, but there's no way "You can hug me" equates with "You can grab my pussy."

From what I've seen on social media, Biden's opponents on both left and right haven't stopped

If Biden can learn and grow and change, then it would serve him well if his supporters did the same.

"That's an excellent start"??? You would have had him START with admonishing (scolding) her?

No he clearly didn't and I think that is what has some women so upset about it all.

It is extremely helpful to society if those who abuse ME TOO like the Biden accusers stop doing

It's a testament to how kooky our culture has become that this is even a thing.
