(19,109 posts)Everything you said, but it can also be true that Buttigieg is perceived as intellectual and polished, which makes him "unrelatable" to a subset of the population, people who will feel he doesn't understand their lives. "Wouldn't know the price of bread" is just a stand-in for the general sense that he is somehow above them.
I don't mean this as a critique of Buttigieg. I like him and I love the idea of an intellectual in the WH again! But it may not work with some groups, is all.
I think his bigger problem with AAs is what the poster above perceptively noted: conservative AA churches. We tend to think of bigots as being generally white, but there are a lot of socially conservative AAs at least with respect to LGBTQ. I think most of us tend to give an oppressed group more slack in their biases - but it certainly pertains politically.
