(8,964 posts)Was a line somehow crossed? Or is there a "grace period" where progressives can proceed to play policy footsie with one of the most despicable Senators to have contaminated that body? If it's OK to align with Cruz up until a point that he balks at reaching a meaningful legislative consensus, then his sordid history of hate speech and demagoguery no longer matters. And I suspect that it indeed does not. Truth be known, the pragmatism involving unsavory characters gets a lot of legislation passed. In the early 60's, Hubert Humphrey et al and Dixiecrats were at opposite ends of the spectrum regarding civil rights vs. states rights, but they joined forces for spending bills that benefited their states. Hyper-partisanship aside, some of the earlier dynamic still remains.
