A Vice Presidency is a powerful boost towards running for Presidency. It is very close to the advantage of incumbency.
Ideally, the VP would be poised to take over for 8 years after their service as VP.
I think that is where the analogy comes in.

If she was VP then by some's standard she would be too old to carry any message to the presidency.
