(6,179 posts)I just turned 69 nineteen days ago. My first vote was cast for George McGovern in 1972. I had just gotten out of the Army in September and briefly volunteered to do some local campaign work for him. I still remember how shitty it felt to be forced to serve in the military while not being able to vote. Our generation changed both of those injustices. We ended the draft and lowered the voting age to 18.
My thoughts on the current situation pretty much align with yours. I plan on being blunt as well with posts. I'm proud of what our generation accomplished back in the day but at the same time dismayed by how much of that activism has disappeared. As our generation phases out and the next one dominates the scene I can only hope that trump has inspired the same kind of activism today as Viet Nam and Nixon did back in our day.
primary today, I would vote for: Joe Biden
