Looking at the world through the racial lens, from the perspective of some who grew up subject to the bandaids and attempts to mold the US into a post racial culture in ways that make sure white people are comfortable, is apparently very discomforting.
Kamala pointed out that busing worked out as hoped in her case contrary to Biden's blanket statement that it was an "asinine policy."
It would seem that attributing the fact that she was on that stage despite Joe's earlier opposition indicates that he was not entirely correct to go along with segregationists' hard line anti-bussing position because there are most likely more than a few other people who are exceptions to Joe's assumption and there are likely to be people who did not benefit from busing but would have if it had been an opportunity.
Of course some might even think the fact that it did work in Kamala's favor might be a problem rather than a success story since it is very much part of what propelled her to that stage.
She explicitly denied that she thought he is racist. If he and supporters came across as fragile. They probably have a problem are uncomfortable thinking about what it means to be white in a culture which presumes white superiority under leadership that still goes out of it's way to maintain it.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Undecided
