(12,344 posts)totally shocked by what our friends, co-workers, relatives, neighbors and acquaintances did in 2016. That includes lots of people smarter than you and me put together. My response to that shock is to rethink everything I thought I knew about politics and take a look at what would cause anybody to vote for a howling orangutan, let alone 46% of the country.
The blue wall didn't crumble because we ignored it. The whole point of the "blue wall" was that it was safe, so we didn't have to worry about it. The problem was that we didn't understand it, and that includes people who live and work there. Because if the people there did understand it, they would have sounded the alarm a year before the election.
What I see here is uncharted territory. I don't know where we are going. I don't believe anybody relying on a pre-2016 map knows either. So I'm not accepting anybody's appeal to personal experience. I'm taking most comparisons to prior elections with a big grain of salt, except where those elections themselves defied expectations.
I was only joking about getting off DU. I do like sparring with you.
Thank you for your work on electing good Democrats.
primary today, I would vote for: Joe Biden
