(25,406 posts)But other than Barack Obama, which of our Democratic progressive candidates since McGovern have been elected? And some would dispute the characterization of Obama as progressive. He didn't run on reparations, or anything that would have been labeled "amnesty", or on dismantling the military.
I've said, my head is with Biden, my heart is with Buttigieg. I feel that Joe Biden has the best chance of fending off attacks over his being too "socialist" or "radical". But, I think with Pete Buttigieg that you have a really good chance of getting a more progressive agenda, without him scaring people off before the general election. He has a way of being able to calm people down sometimes that I don't see with too many others. The reich wingers and other Trumpsters would focus primarily on his orientation, and that simply just doesn't matter so much to voters in the middle.
