96. It's not just the Franken incident
Gillibrand was one of the more conservative Democrats in the House, a member of the Blue Dog Coalition, 100% rating from the NRA, and only a tepid supporter of same-sex marriage. The second she became a Senator, she was a different person. She quickly became one of the most liberal Democrats, strongly advocating for the legalization of same sex marriage and soon earning an F rating from the NRA. It was a total transformation.
Honestly, I believe Gillibrand is actually a liberal. There are many occasions when she seemed to admit she was more liberal than her House voting record. However, I can't trust her to take a stand on a lot of issues. Gillibrand has already proven that her support depends less upon what she believes than upon what is best for her political future. When she led the charge against Al Franken, I was left wondering, did Gillibrand speak out on behalf of all of us women who have experienced unwanted sexual advances and abuse? Or had she made a coldly calculated decision that her stance would help advance her politically? I couldn't decide.
I'm 65 and I can't count the number of times I've had to deal with unwanted sexual advances and abuse from male coworkers. I fully support MeToo. I was one of them on multiple occasions. I just can't shake the feeling that Gillibrand spoke out against Franken in order to advance her own political career, rather than to seek justice for his victim/accuser.
I am certain I will not vote for Gillibrand in the primary and I don't believe she will be the Democratic candidate in the general. Should that happen, I will vote for Gillibrand in the general election without a moment's hesitation. However, I'll never trust that she'll actually support anything she says she will do if she's elected.
Gillibrand will nevah evah evah EVAH be President.
primary today, I would vote for: Joe Biden
