1. We haven't seen debates, but performances, and it has been ugly

So why not just admit it and change how we use media to present candidates.

How about asking each candidate the same question in a one-on-one interview, sitting down, with no public audience. Play the responses back-to-back on the network(s) and let viewers hear actual ideas. You could pick a topic a week or night and repeat the process. Candidates would get to air their policies/positions before any debate.

We can argue about who would make a debate stage, and might have to modify it, but the current system is a distraction at a minimum, and potentially destructive to advancing our cause.
