(37,648 posts)From the Repub perspective, he had charisma in aces. From a different perspective, I would agree, as well. He was the sort of person who, when with a group of other politicians, he stood out. Sense of humor, tall, confidant, command of the facts and definite in his ideology, attractive. Whatever charisma is. It's probably why he had been a movie star. That "it" factor.
I hear people saying, "Well, (insert other candidate), has such great positions on policies and great plans to solve things." But that's like saying, "Well, Paul Giamotto is such a better actor than Tom Cruise. I resent Cruise being given all those blockbuster movies, when Giamotto is a better actor. Cruise gets too much attention." It's not just about acting skills. It's that "it" factor that makes Cruise a mega-movie star. Or why John Travolta or Hugh Grant are movie stars, when other actors are better at the craft. When the mega stars are on screen, that's who people watch. Those are the ones who draw people to theaters.
It's not much different with politicians. Besides, all Democratic Party candidates hold similar positions on the issues, so IMO it comes down to force of personality and ability to get Congress to work with him/her.
