Democratic Primaries
In reply to the discussion: It's funny. I have this "feeling" about Warren... [View all]RO4Warren
(28 posts)I agree the most important concern for this country is to defeat Trump. But after what we've seen from Biden in the debates and on the trail, I am not seeing a man who has what it will take to beat Trump.
Biden has already basically said that he won't pick Warren as VP. He wants someone who agrees with him on the issues and isn't considering diversity as his first consideration. I think this is both politically foolish and tone deaf.
Let's tackle a few of your points:
Point: "THERE IS NO WAY REPUBLICANS, INCLUDING REPUBLICAN WOMEN WILL VOTE FOR A WOMAN PRESIDENT."
Counterpoint: You are generally correct. There is also no way they will vote for Biden, and we don't need their votes to take the Presidency. Republicans are less than 30% of the electorate according to Gallup. 90% of them will vote for Trump anyway, and the Never Trumpers like Comey will vote for whoever the Dems run or for a Libertarian candidate. The numbers say we don't need them to win. We need most of the independents who represent the largest group in the election, and we need to EXCITE and TURN OUT the Democratic base. There may be an argument that Biden would do better with Independents, but there is no question that Warren has the enthusiasm edge required to drive voter turnout. Warren's track record also shows that the more people see and hear her, the more they like her. Biden's track record in Presidential elections shows the opposite.
Point: Also, the Dems need to more importantly focus on Senate races maybe even more than Trump......The Republican controlled Senate is, in reality, the ONLY reason that Trump is allowed to remain as President........PERIOD
Counterpoint: I agree, this is a very close second in importance to beating Trump. This is why the men who are in this race need to get out and run for open Senate seats. Some are already doing so, and this is a GOOD thing.
Point: Truthfully there isn't a single woman or man in recent history who could match Hillary's knowledge or abilities and look what happened to her........
Counterpoint: Hillary Clinton was the most hated politician in America before Trump, and she almost won. Elizabeth Warren shows a stronger work ethic, more energy, more authenticity, is far more likeable, and has a far more inspiring message. In addition, Trump has moved a lot more people against him with his actions since 2016. As a white man who helped cause this problem by voting third party in 2016 (Trump and Clinton were both horribly flawed candidates but I had no idea Trump would be THIS bad or Congress would be THIS spineless), I can tell you I am fired up and passionate about electing the first female President. It's LONG past time.
The Democratic Party lost by playing it safe in 2016. Biden is the "safe" play here, and he's not even very safe. The idea of him on a debate stage with Trump scares me to death. The idea of Warren on a debate stage with Trump... I CANNOT WAIT to see her take him apart.
primary today, I would vote for: Undecided
