(127,811 posts)so that he could pop the clutch and start the truck in second gear. I was running at full speed when both legs gave out from under me--I fell straight down on both knees and was unable to break the fall by taking another step or getting my hands out in front of me. I did a full face-plant on concrete and had blood gushing from the bridge of my nose and the cleft above my lip along with other facial abrasions. I broke my right arm and sprained my shoulder such that I needed physical therapy for the next couple of months.
Despite the seriousness of the accident and the fact that about one-third of my face was covered with caked-on blood for the next two weeks, I did not have any stitches put in. However, even though I was 44 years old, I didn't try to cover up the fact that I fell. There wouldn't be anything embarrassing for a 77 year old man to admit to slipping or falling in the shower.
The reaction that I would expect from anyone no matter their age would be to cancel the plans for the next couple of days and get some bed rest. I'm surprised that a doctor wouldn't offer that advice to a patient rather than flying across the country for a campaign rally. Why anyone would not follow medical advice (or at least show some common sense) and rest doesn't seem like a wise decision. It's early in the campaign so the rally probably could have been rescheduled. Regardless whether the injury occurred because a fall or stumble, the decision-making afterwards is questionable.
primary today, I would vote for: Joe Biden
