Beto ORourkes presidential campaign announced they had raised $6,136,736 in the first 24 hours of his campaign. The massive haul means he beat out the rest of the crowded field, including Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), who raised $5.9 million, according to
The New York Times.
In just 24 hours, Americans across this country came together to prove that it is possible to run a true grassroots campaign for president a campaign by all of us for all of us that answers not to the PACs, corporations and special interests but to the people, ORourke said in a statement.
The Texas Tribune further
reported he did not take any money from Political Action Committees and the online donations were received from every state and territory in the country.
His campaign would not reveal what the average donation amount was or how many donors contributed.
CNN noted ORourkes campaign is a bit unorthodox as he has no campaign manager yet and his campaign website does not state any of his policies.
