I'm thinking that he may have been likely to change it to "The campaign" if it was "I" before.
He uses language in a way that distances himself from saying anything that might indicate that he aligns with someone that he feels anger towards. He once said that WFP is the closest thing there is to a political party that believes in my vision of democratic socialism." I'm sure anger is what he felt when told that the WFP party had backed Warren, especially on the heels of the 'She the People" episode, and not long after him and his supporters started taking shots at Warren as being the "safe" choice of "Democratic Establishment" and people who "would like to see a woman elected. "
