112. Every election is unique

While there are lessons to be learned from past campaigns, the way something happened in the past doesn't always happen in the same way in the future.

I think a lot of elections are a referendum on the administration in office during the campaign season.

And then there are outliers, like President Obama. He was a unique candidate who started building momentum toward the general election from his speech at the Democratic convention in 2004. While Bush Jr. was incredibly unpopular, Obama was up against a war hero who was also a formidable opponent.

President Obama's campaign transformed into a movement for change. And that was the tipping point to victory.

Most of the country is hungry for a change from the Trump era. I hope a movement forms behind our eventual nominee because that will drive excitement and turnout up and down the ballot.
