(12,344 posts)While there are lessons to be learned from past campaigns, the way something happened in the past doesn't always happen in the same way in the future.
I think a lot of elections are a referendum on the administration in office during the campaign season.
And then there are outliers, like President Obama. He was a unique candidate who started building momentum toward the general election from his speech at the Democratic convention in 2004. While Bush Jr. was incredibly unpopular, Obama was up against a war hero who was also a formidable opponent.
President Obama's campaign transformed into a movement for change. And that was the tipping point to victory.
Most of the country is hungry for a change from the Trump era. I hope a movement forms behind our eventual nominee because that will drive excitement and turnout up and down the ballot.
