In reply to the discussion: Will these attacks, mainly rumors and innuendo, hurt Joe Biden? [View all]wysimdnwyg
(2,239 posts)I just think the "not EW" bit was unnecessary. There are a number of posters around here who are so convinced that only Biden can win that they are more than willing to very loudly proclaim their doubts about the other candidates as if their opinion is a scientific law. You may think Warren will be challenged in the general election due to the Electoral College, but that does not mean we all believe that. I, for one, believe very strongly that the difficulties Clinton had in 2016 were due more to the candidate than the system (some, but certainly not all, of which were self-inflicted), which means a better campaign by a candidate who has not been on the receiving end of 25 years of Republican lies stands a much better chance of winning, regardless of perceived EC hindrances.
As for why Trump singled out Biden, I suspect the reasons for that are largely because he heard a RW talking point about it and because Biden is currently the front runner. If Warren continues trending upward and takes the polling lead, I think it's clear he'll come after her next.
(I want to stress that I don't think your intention - in any way - was to throw shade at Warren. I'm trying to explain in this post that I'm a little defensive about some of the "Biden is our only hope" attitude around here, so I jumped to Warren's defense. Further, for those I may have offended by my statement above, I believe that yes, Clinton did hurt her campaign by taking certain Rust Belt states for granted in 2016, on top of many other issues that hurt her campaign, such as Russian interference and decades of GOP lies. I did and still believe Clinton would have made for a fantastic President, but we're not going to learn much from her defeat if we only look at the problems that were outside of her control.)
primary today, I would vote for: Joe Biden
