Democratic Primaries
In reply to the discussion: Is Elizabeth Warren is our strongest and best candidate? [View all]not_the_one
(2,227 posts)As you can see, I think Pete is by far the best candidate. Things are so bad at this point, we need to completely rethink how we approach our tattered democracy. Pete is smart, articulate, and has the knack for communication. He could be the new and improved democratic leader. He would actually surround himself with the best people. If not this time, maybe next.
But I also realize the obstacles in front of him. If the AA community refuses to give him a chance, more than likely he is going nowhere.
If he can make a showing in Iowa and New Hampshire, things could change. If he did get some momentum, and the young vote rallied behind him (which is going to be YUUGE!) he could do it without the mainstream AA. But it would be difficult.
I also feel that Biden is not our best face to put forward, for the reasons you state. His broad support is a mile wide (based on name recognition), but an inch deep, and once the turd starts concentrating on him, much of that support may dissolve away.
Warren has the one issue of sometimes coming across as a schoolmarm... Unfortunately, Americans may not "want to drink a beer" with a schoolmarm. (We can thank W Bush for THAT useful metric in selecting a presidential candidate...) If only Americans were as politically astute as we DUers are.
Overall your argument for Warren is spot on. As long as women and young people vote in large numbers, then add all the gays and pro-women men, we can't lose.
AS LONG AS THE VOTES ARE ACCURATELY COUNTED. That is another issue entirely.
As I have stated before, I will vote for dead roadkill in the middle of the road IF they have a D behind their name...
And I will vote for Biden WITH ENTHUSIASM!!! (who is MUCH BETTER than roadkill! The only one WORSE than roadkill is Tulsi.)
primary today, I would vote for: Joe Biden
