In reply to the discussion: What are the ethnic demographics in Queens? [View all]George II
(67,782 posts)10. As I mentioned over the weekend, the highlight of the event was to be the appearance of AOC...
...for her endorsement of Sanders.
Logically, being held in Queens, one would have thought it would have taken place in HER District, the 14th District, the border of which is only a few hundred yards from the location of the rally.
There are several more suitable venues within the 14th District, most notably Citifield (which may not have been available), Astoria Park (about 3X the size of Queensbridge Park), Flushing Meadow Corona Park (the location of the 1964-1965 World's Fair), and the USTA National Tennis Center - all of which are in the 14th District. There are also a couple of parks in the Bronx section of the 14th District.
One wonders why it wasn't held at any of those.
primary today, I would vote for: Joe Biden

Hispanics are often counted twice - as Hispanic and also as white or black

Better check your figures. Queens isn't 50% white. It's maybe half that as Queens is as diverse...

It's very diverse. Every faith and ethnic group is there and maybe a fourth is white.

Queens County is a very diverse county. If it wasn't part of New York City....

61.4% African American ... They clearly weren't interested in the BS speech.

You can't get much more ethnic diversity than Queens. Every race and faith is there.

Agreed. He definitely does not have the confidence (or support) of the AA community...

His campaign would do better to get busy with GOTV efforts in those same housing projects.

According to a Univision poll from July (admittedly about 3 months old, right after the 1st debate):

"Looks to be very diverse" - unlike the attendees of the rally. By the numbers....
