In reply to the discussion: I think the Biden doing an early VP pick is a lot of hot air [View all]AdamGG
(1,885 posts)I guess the early VP idea for Biden is a way of trying to be all things to all people. He is the experienced centrist, and then he can add someone who is more progressive/young/female/African American and try to appeal more to those demographics too.
But, it's dumb to commit yourself to a running mate 16 months before the convention. You want to make the choice based on the dynamics that exist in the summer of 2020, which may be unpredictably different than now.
Also, I like Stacey Abrams, but in getting more acceptance in the general election, I think there's some credibility issues in choosing someone to be a heartbeat away from an 80 year old President who has only served in state government, not as governor, who lost an election for governor. Rightly or wrongly, I think that Kamala Harris would be a stronger candidate by virtue of serving in the U.S. Senate and as Attorney General of the largest state in the country.
One thing I think would make sense for Biden, if he gets the nomination, would be to pledge to only serve for a single term. But, I don't think he should announce that until his convention acceptance speech.
primary today, I would vote for: Joe Biden
