(54,588 posts)did raise metrics across the board (even though, like most all other cities and states, we (I am part black) PoC still lag behind all other demographic groups on average in most areas of well-being.) He also was reelected with over 80% of the vote, which included the vast majority of African-Americans who voted (and that was after the often misrepresented Boykins issues, which hit when Pete had been mayor for only 6 days.) The other big issue was the tragic police fatal shooting in June, which really kneecapped his A-A primary support (he was even up to 6 or 7% of black support, and rising, in South Carolina, his worst state) which cratered after that.
I fully admit it is a very large (and quite possible fatal) systemic issue for his nomination chances. Perhaps he can toil and claw and work his arse off and win some more of my fellow PoC over. It remains to be seen.
