(61,197 posts)In fact, before many auto jobs went to places like Mexico, they went to the non unionized southern states. The problem now is that a huge part of the labor market has become globalized. Now, it is not just manufacturing, but many white collar jobs, including high skill ones - anything from telephone customer service to programming to accounting.
The problem HRC had was that she had already been on record - and not just during her SoS days as in favor of the deal. She had a choice - support what she obviously had believed in, which might have helped her on the character questions by standing up and explaining why a trade deal was to our advantage - it was the center point, crown jewel of her whole turn to Asia, which was her biggest SoS accomplishment or follow say she was against TPP. She chose the latter, but people thought both Bernie and Trump(!) more sincere.
